Our mission is to support families and children who are battling and living with the impact of childhood brain cancer and to raise funds for research, with a specific focus on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG).
On May 15, 2022, our lives changed forever when four-year-old Evan was diagnosed with Grade 4 Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). The baby of our family had an inoperable brain cancer considered terminal at diagnosis. Children with DIPG survive an average of 9-12 months post-diagnosis. Evan valiantly battled DIPG for 13 months and sadly gained his angel wings on June 19, 2023.
The treatment for DIPG typically involves a 30-day course of daily radiation and, if available, clinical trials, for which not all kids even qualify. Some families travel great distances to participate in a clinical trial. Ultimately, families hear the impossible news that they should go home and make memories. We founded Evan’s Golden Heart Foundation to try to help these kids and their families through these impossible times with as many smiles as they can manage.
Evan’s Golden Heart Foundation has proudly:
- Delivered over 500 toys to children in three local hospitals on multiple occasions
- Provided celebration packages for children completing their radiation treatment
- Sent toys to help DIPG children celebrate birthdays and other special milestones
- Supported families battling DIPG by covering essential needs such as groceries, bills, and gas cards for treatment travel
- Sponsored DIPG kids to meet critical needs during extraordinary circumstances
