Friends of View of Lights is a charitable organization dedicated to helping their sister nonprofit, View of Lights (VOL), share the gift of light with those in need across the world. Many rural communities do not have adequate access to electricity both locally in Everett, Massachusetts as well as in VOL’s home country of Liberia, West Africa.

Giving the gift of light

Your donation helps families put light into their homes and helps school children study at night. Friends of View of Lights helps VOL achieve their mission through three main programs:

  • Financial assistance to pay light bills for families in Everett, MA who have had or are at risk of having their electric service shut off due to difficulties experienced from the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Solar panel kits to be distributed as emergency power backup for at-risk families in Everett, MA.
  • Solar panel kits to be distributed as primary power for schools and clinics in Liberia, West Africa.

We value your donation towards helping communities shine.

Financial assistance to pay light bills

Throughout the pandemic, Everett MA families at risk of electric shutoffs were protected by an Order issued by the Department of Public Utilities which extended a moratorium that prohibits utility shutoffs to July 1, 2021. Once the moratorium is lifted, hundreds of local Everett, MA families will be in immediate risk of losing their electricity for nonpayment. If you are one of those families, the State of Mass may have a program to help you keep your lights on. Check here to see if you qualify.

If you belong to a family at risk of losing your electricity for nonpayment and you do not quality for any of the State of Mass programs, Friends of View of Lights may be able to help. Please complete this form to be added to our waitlist. Our goal is to begin assisting local families as soon as September.

If you are not at risk of losing your electricity, please help us help others and make a donation now to Friends of View of Lights.

Solar panel kits for emergency backup power

Over the past years, there has been a noticeable increase in local extreme weather events that bring with them severe power outages. Too few families in Everett, MA have the resources needed to obtain emergency backup power solutions. Friends of View of Lights will be providing local families with affordable solar panel kits that provide emergency power to ensure essential appliances continue to operate in emergency situations.

The  solar panel kits can be purchased on Amazon. Please see our Amazon Wishlist to purchase components for shipment to our Everett, MA location or make a monetary donation towards the cause.

Solar panel kits for primary power

VOL has identified schools and clinics in their home country of Liberia, West Africa that are in desperate need of solar panel kits to be used as their main source of energy which will allow them to better serve their communities. (Pictured are Bomi County Community College and Esther F Grant Clinic.)

The solar panel kits will be delivered as primary power to communities that currently have no electricity at all. This primary source of power will enable these schools and clinics to continue providing essential services during hours after dark.

The solar panel kits can be purchased on Amazon. Please see our Amazon Wishlist to purchase components for shipment to our Everett, MA location or make a monetary donation towards the cause.
